A bit about Leigh...
Leigh graduated from UNI with majors in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. During her undergraduate years at UNI, she participated as a summer camp counselor in Okinawa, Japan and Tokyo, Japan through the Camp Adventure program. She completed her student teaching in Cairo, Egypt at Cairo American College and together with her husband, she was hired to teach at the American International School in Cairo.
Her next move was to Brasilia, Brazil teaching kindergarten and second grade at the American School in Brasilia. During the five years that Leigh spent in Brazil, she served as the cooperating teacher for UNI student teachers and also received her Masters degree in International Education. Her two daughters, Willow and Ayla were both born in Brazil. After eight years of living abroad, Leigh and her family moved back to Iowa where Leigh was hired to coordinate international student teachers through UNI. In 2012 Leigh completed her PhD in Educational Leadership through Iowa State University. In July of 2013 Leigh and her family moved to Seoul, South Korea to establish a new UNI student teaching center while giving her children an internationally based education. She continues to place student teachers across the globe from her office on the campus of Korea International School. |
A bit about Carrie...
Carrie graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with majors in Elementary Education and Spanish. Carrie developed her love for travel as a camp counselor with the Camp Adventure Program during her years at UNI. From there, Carrie went on to student teach in Cairo, Egypt. Carrie and her husband were then hired to teach at the American International School in Cairo where Carrie spent three years teaching 5th grade.
After their wonderful adventures in Cairo, Carrie and her husband moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and taught at the American International School for 5 years. Carrie enjoyed teaching second grade at this school while helping to direct the yearly elementary school musical, and having two kids of her own. The final international stop for Carrie and her husband was on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. Carrie taught 5th and 6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies for three years at Caltex American School. After 11 years of living abroad the Elsers moved back to Iowa in 2007. Carrie finished her Masters in Educational Psychology and began working to send UNI student teachers to locations across the US and the globe. Carrie is currently working to finish her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (if she survives) and continues to help student teachers have wonderful and diverse student teaching experiences. |
A bit about Jen.......
Jen graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a major in Art Education. While an undergraduate student, she discovered her love for international travel with the Camp Adventure program. Her first stop landed her in Okinawa, Japan and was followed with visits to the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Sicily. After Jen completed her Master’s in Youth and Human Services, she started working to coordinate international Child and Youth internships for college students and new graduates from UNI and partnering universities nationwide. She has supervised child and youth interns in Germany, Italy, England, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Japan, South Korea, and other U.S. and international locations. After 14 years of working with children overseas and supervising international internships, Jen is the newest member of the International and Out-of-State Student Teaching team! |
